The third oldest law school in New York City, its history predates its official founding in 1891 by Theodore Dwight: Dwight founded Columbia Law School in 1858 when he became its first and only professor. Nationwide, NYLS is the 50th oldest among 197 American Bar Association-accredited law schools.
